Grantown On Spey

Situated within the Cairngorms National Park Grantown is the Capital of Strathspey and a leading tourist resort. It has a fine shopping centre, first class hotels and guest houses, Primary and Grammar schools offering education to university entrance standard, Cottage Hospital and Health Centre. Sporting facilities include 18 hole golf course, superb leisure centre with 4 court sports hall, climbing wall, fitness suite and 20m pool, excellent Salmon and Trout fishing in the River Spey and other waters, 8 tennis courts, bowling green, children’s recreation park and forest walks through Grant Park. There are many places of interest to visit in the area with Grantown being the gateway to the Malt Whisky Trail. The Grantown Heritage Centre is open through the summer and Highland Games are held at different venues throughout the Spey Valley. Within easy reach are the Cairngorm Mountains for winter sports facilities and hill walking. The sandy beaches of the Moray Firth are also close by. The small batch beers are lovingly brewed in Grantown On Spey, and are made from Speyside water for a truly authentic Scottish craft beer.

Camra voted it the best real ale at the Forres Real Ale Festival where over 100 beers were on show.

The Beers

No74 (4.5%) – Rich Amber malts giving a stunning amber colour and rich spicy flavours from the hops – is our amber ale, rich in colour as it is in flavour, roasted malts and hopped to give fruity, slightly spicy notes with the hint of orange

Spey IPA (3.5%) – Light and fresh with a great kick of hops – Is a combination the best water, ingredients. With 4 malts & new world hops giving a refreshing citrus aroma with hints of Grassy, Lemon & Spicy aromas.

Angus Pale Ale (4%) – A stunning clean & crisp pale ale – Lightly hopped to give a smell of sweet fruits such as grapes and peaches, while at the same time having essence of woody & grassy elements.

The Process

A standard hand brewing process is used for a 2.5 barrel plant. The process takes a total of 14 days and consists of – Brew day from 8am to 5pm, 3 days in fermentation tanks and then 10 days in conditioning tanks. There is definite scope to increase to a double brew which would lead to increased profit.

Property

The brewery is of timber construction with a metal profile sheet roof. Double timber glazed doors with a panel either side open at the front and there is a further window to the front. The main brewery room has a base storage unit incorporating a stainless steel sink with mixer tap and there is a spacious store for housing the products and equipment. There is concrete flooring, full insulation, power and lighting throughout.

Grounds

There is an area to the front of the brewery which is part concrete and part gravel and offers parking for two vehicles. A high level timber fence surrounds the property and double timber gates and a single timber gate allow access at the front. There is a Greenflame biomass boiler.

Equipment List

There is a large equipment and stock list which allows for immediate production and includes fermentation and conditioning tanks, mash tun, cooling units, scales, bottles, malts etc. The list is too large to detail here and a excel spreadsheet inventory can be made available to viewers.

Business Growth Potential

We believe there is significant scope to increase sales through greater website awareness and sales promotions, capitalising upon the significant tourist clientèle and local and national demand. In addition the current owners work restricted hours and there is ample opportunity to increase this including expanding operations to cover the many outdoor events and exhibitions held throughout the Spey Valley and the wider community. There is currently one ad hoc employee who has a wealth of brewing knowledge and would allow any purchaser to hit the ground running.
